'have faith': trunk show
meet Mari Schuman
"In the midst of earning my Master of Divinity degree in my 40's and preparing to serve as a Chaplain; I received visions of another Ministry; pictures of religious and spiritual symbols and beautiful stones made into jewelry came to me time and again. I felt I was being called to support people in a creative way to practice their spiritual in faith Journey.
Each piece I make is more than just a creative process. Creativity is part of my spiritual practice, the process becomes a prayer and a meditation, as I know I am making each particular piece for someone I haven't met yet. I don't plan so much as I allow the pieces to tell me what they want to become.
I have a particular affection for making Catholic rosaries even though that is not my spiritual tradition, I do often pray the rosary. and I wrote a special prayer for Quan Yin the goddess of compassion and mercy. I created prayer beads, some which I make into necklaces and some just for the Grace being able to pray to be a more compassionate person.
My work covers any symbol that may be spiritual or religious, symbols of nature such as flowers, trees and shells that I find while beachcombing. I use only semi-precious stones, freshwater pearls and Swarovski Crystal in my designs."
